How do you avoid getting let down by suppliers?

When it comes to working with manufacturers, I've heard some real horror stories from fashion founders before they worked with me.

One lost £7k to a factory, another was ghosted halfway through the product development phase. Another received a whole production order that was faulty.

I'll tell you what I told them - I can’t promise you that nothing will ever go wrong with your factory again, but I can show you how to make it a lot less likely.

Because when you have major supplier issues like the one's I've mentioned, it usually comes down to one of two reasons:

  • You haven't done strong enough due diligence on the factory you’re working with

  • You haven't built a strong enough working relationship with your supplier

Think about it, if a supplier is as invested in the success of your business as you are, they would have no reason to let you down. And that's what we should be aiming for when we source manufacturers - a long term partnership that's mutually beneficial to both parties.

For a lot of people finding a manufacturer will look like using a database like Alibaba, sending a lot of emails and hoping someone replies. But what most people don't understand is how to sort the good suppliers from the bad and how to make their business attractive to work with, which is especially difficult if you're a startup looking to make small quantities.

In my next masterclass I'm going to give you the tools to do just that. At the end of this workshop you will not only be able to confidently approach and vet suppliers, but you'll know how to start a relationship that leads to long term collaboration and success.
